Buying Melee Diamonds Wholesale From Surat

Melee diamonds — generally defined as stones under 0.18 carats, though the term is used loosely up to about 0.25 carats — are the small accent stones used in pavé settings, halo designs, and detail work across the jewelry industry. They're bought differently than center stones, at a scale most buyers new to wholesale sourcing don't expect.

Melee is a parcel business, not a per-stone business

Because certifying thousands of individual sub-0.18ct stones isn't economically viable, melee is almost always bought and sold by weight in parcels — often described in total carat weight for a given shape, size range, and quality band (color and clarity), rather than stone by stone. A jewelry manufacturer buying melee is really buying consistency across a large batch, not evaluating individual stones the way they might a center diamond.

Consistency matters more than headline grade

For pavé and accent work, visual consistency across a setting matters as much as the technical grade — mismatched color or size within a single piece is immediately noticeable to a trained eye, even if every stone individually meets specification. This makes evaluating a melee parcel's actual consistency, not just its stated average grade, one of the most important steps before committing to a purchase.

Why sourcing melee direct from Surat matters at volume

Surat's manufacturing base handles enormous melee volume specifically because small-stone cutting is highly labor- and calibration-intensive — exactly the kind of specialized, high-volume production Surat's industrial scale supports. For jewelry manufacturers who need consistent melee supply for ongoing production runs, a direct manufacturer relationship means being able to specify shape, size, and quality precisely for each production cycle, rather than taking whatever a distributor currently has in stock.

Building a reliable melee supply chain

A single trip can establish the kind of manufacturer relationship that supports repeat melee orders over time — which is exactly the model a hosted VisitSDB visit is built around: matching you with manufacturers suited to your specific volume and specification needs, with the relationship continuing after you leave.
